I am Remmy Duchene – I write gay romance erotica—mostly interracial. I know, that’s not everyone’s cup of tea but hey, we like what we like.
Today, I’m going to talk about men.
Growing up, I always decline to even look at men who were more than five years older than I was. It always made me cringe a little. After all, I was a child and to me any man who stepped to me had to be of a certain age, looked a certain way. But I noticed since I began writing MM, the men I find sexy range from my age, 31 all the way up to—well I don’t know. Now that I’m older, I look at a man with a more open mind and is willing to accept certain things, maturity, age, grey hairs and accents.
I find I have very little patience for stupidity. With a younger guy, someone around my age or a few years younger—for the most part—I cannot tolerate most of the things they think funny, the way they dress etc. I was at the train station the other day and saw this guy, he looks to be between 25-30 years old but he had his boxers at his hips then his pants belted around his thigh. Now, I’m not sure what woman finds that sexy but it turns my stomach every time I see something like that. I could never go out with a man who dressed like that. He also wore an oversized t-shirt that said “Bitch have to pay” on the front which just made me want to reach out, wrap my fingers around his neck and squeeze while shaking and asking “why in the HELL did you leave the house like this?”
Then as I got on the train, I was stupid enough not to be using my headphones. My fault and I paid the ultimate price. I had the misfortune of overhearing their conversation and I really wanted to scream. They were talking about some girl the guy in the “bitch have to pay” shirt met at some club the weekend before and the terms they used to describe this girl was just horrible.
Why am I talking about this? The men I write in my stories have a certain air about them. I try writing men who are morally upstanding because it always irks me to no end when I read gay men in some books and they are just evil. I write my men like I love them in real life—not always overly muscular but always kind and sometimes even if they lose their way, the love of the other bring them right back on track.
In my newest release Head Over Heels Case isn’t your typical man in a romance novel. He’s has meat on his bones, chubby cheeks and loves the sunrise, yet when Christian sees him, there is no denying something special could develop between them. I wanted Case’s personality to be the first thing Christian falls for. It was a first for me—putting a scarred hottie with a regular guy. But it was so much fun to write. I enjoyed the dynamic of a man who didn’t think looks were everything and a man who thought he had to be perfect to find a good man. It was a breath of fresh air for me. Luckily for me Evernight Publishing liked the idea of me experimenting and accepted Head Over Heels!
Firefighter Christian Shane, badly scarred from a fire that ravished a city block, runs away from New York to Beacon Cove, hoping to hide away in his family's beach house. All he wants is to be left alone.
Case Jenkins never met a sexy, muscled stud he liked. They were always jocks and always dicks—plain and simple. He was too much of a nerd and not built like a brick house. But when he sees Christian Shane, he can't control himself. Nothing worth having ever comes easy, and Case isn't quite sure he has enough patience. But there’s a mad-man trying to burn down the world, and in the end, both men must come to terms with their feelings.
